Your font already has Bulgarian forms. langBG makes them the default - quickly and easily.

The type designer’s glyphs
langBG draws nothing and swaps no glyphs. It turns on the forms the designer already made for Bulgarian.
OpenType features stay intact
Only the locl rule is redirected. Ligatures, small caps and contextual alternates are left as they are.
Nothing is uploaded
Conversion runs in your browser (WebAssembly). No server, no account, no cookies.
Next to the original
The copy installs as “Montserrat BG”. The original stays for code and other apps.
Converter
Add .ttf or .otf files - the whole family at once. Add OFL.txt too and it goes into the ZIP.

Two modes. You choose when converting.
Default
Bulgarian forms are always on. For Bulgarian-only projects.
Stylistic set
Bulgarian forms are a toggle in Type settings, as in IBM Plex. For projects that mix Cyrillic languages.
How to install the font
Unzip the file
Extract the files from the archive, ideally into a folder of their own.
Install the fonts
Windows: select all the files, right-click, Install. macOS: double-click, then Install Font.
Restart Figma
Restart Figma. Figma in the browser needs the Figma Font Installer. Look for the new name, e.g. “Montserrat BG”.
One name for design, another for code.
In Figma you pick “Montserrat BG”; in code it stays “Montserrat”. Browsers show the Bulgarian forms on their own once the page has lang="bg".
For the developer:
/* in Figma: Montserrat BG */
font-family: "Montserrat", sans-serif;<html lang="bg">Coming soon: a Figma Dev Mode plugin. It won’t change anything in your file: it will only show the correct CSS, with the original font name and a note about lang="bg".
Frequently asked questions
Is it legal to modify the font?
Under the OFL, yes - the license allows modifications.
If the font has a Reserved Font Name (e.g. IBM Plex), the copy is still named “<name> BG” and is for your own use - don’t redistribute it. For another name, use “Custom name”.
Are my fonts uploaded?
No. Conversion runs in your browser. No server, no accounts, no cookies.
Do my teammates need the copy too?
Yes - everyone who opens the file. Otherwise Figma substitutes another font.
Which fonts work?
Those with Bulgarian forms in locl for BGR. langBG checks the font when you add it and tells you if there’s nothing to turn on.
The catalog has ready-to-convert fonts - one click each.
Is the original font changed?
No. langBG makes a separate copy with a new name; the original stays untouched.
Why doesn’t Figma do this itself?
Figma doesn’t pass the text language to the font. The request (opens in a new tab) has been open since 2021. Until Figma fixes it, langBG is the workaround.
